Cadenza is a musical film about Black women and femmes in the visitors' waiting rooms of a prison. Directed by Anna Martine Whitehead and Wills Glasspiegel, the film extends and documents FORCE!, an opera-in-progress by Whitehead, featuring dancers Rahila Coats, Jenn Freeman, and Zachary Nicol, and musicians Daniella Pruitt, Tramaine Parker, Jeremiah Collier, Teiana Robinson/anaiet*, Brooklyn Skye, Ayanna Woods, and Angel Bat Dawid. (Woods and Bat Dawid are also co-composers, along with Philip Armstrong.) OTV's screening of Cadenza includes commentary from Damon Locks (leader of Black Monument Ensemble) and Angel Bat Dawid. The evening concludes with an open panel discussion with scholar Marshall Green and members of the FORCE! constellation, addressing linkages among queer Black care-taking, taking up space in the Gold Coast, and freedom dreaming.
