Chickweed Magik is an urban fantasy anthology series, set in Chicago, centering Black women whose encounters with the otherworldly challenge their beliefs about society, identity - and existence, at large.
The pilot of the series, titled "Wannabe", tells a provocative coming-of-age story. When their bus breaks down on a school trip, a quartet of cheerleaders sneak off into the nearby woods. A hallucinatory occurrence veers them off path and they become lost - soon, they meet a mysterious woman and a fountain she claims can grant eternal life. The supernatural experience immerses the teens in a confrontation with their different identities as young Black women and the meaning of life.
