Every #BraveFutures film race challenges each team with a theme. For this race, it was "A New Home". The following is Sound Camera Dalas response to the theme.
'A New Home' in the eyes of Sound Camera Dala is a political commentary through a comedic lens. As a team, we quickly realised that we were all passionate about discussing income inequality and the housing crisis in Cape Town. Cape Town is perceived as a trendy, clean, 'not-so-African' African city that ignites intrigue in the Western world. For millions of rands, many Western foreigners invest in upmarket property around areas like Sea Point, Green Point and Camps Bay. At the same time, the cost of living in the city rises and little is done to address homelessness. In our view, Cape Town is ultimately a city for tourists and not residents. We developed a story that uses satire to address these painful issues and systemic inequities. We hope our film will spark conversations about what it means to make Cape Town a new home.
